THE Round Seven Men’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Shaun Stewart of the Mandurah Magic.
Heading into Round Seven the Mandurah Magic were 1-6, and one of the toughest assignments – a road trip to Geraldton – lay ahead. On paper, this should have been an easy win for the Buccaneers at home: enter Shaun Stewart.
Stewart proved his elite calibre in the hostile Active West Stadium, as he went off for 32 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. In a rounded performance, Stewart went 5-5 from beyond the arc, while adding 5 steals and a block on the defensive end.
In addition to going 100% from 3-point land, he was flawless from the free-throw line and efficiently went about his scoring on 57% shooting.
Playing in all but 1:31 minutes of the Magic’s 94-85 win, Stewart took the team on his shoulders to upset the second placed Geraldton squad. Wins against the Eagles and Giants over the next fortnight should see the Magic make a push into the Top 8.
