THE Round Eleven Women’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Nat Burton of the Perry Lake Hawks.
Sitting 11th on the WSBL ladder on 1-9, the 2017 Premiers Perry Lakes Hawks were in dire need of their fortunes to change. It came in the form of Nat Burton.
Following the weekend’s performance, the Hawks have tripled their wins for 2018, after strong victories over the Joondalup Wolves and an undermanned Perth Redbacks. Burton was sublime in both wins, firstly dropping 23 points and 17 rebounds Friday night against the Wolves (67-55), in 36 minutes.
On Saturday, the Hawks capitalised on the absence of Kayla Standish, and it was inside where they did their damage in a 75-58 win. Burton managed 19 points and 11 rebounds, adding her third double-double in as many games since returning from Germany.
Burton and the Hawks look ahead to their Rivalry Round clash against the East Perth Eagles, and now lay just 1 game outside the top 8. With 7th through 11th split by 2 wins, a well-timed run by Coach Smith’s charges could see them salvage success from a tough 2018 season.
