WSBL Player of the Week: Toni Farnworth

THE Round Seventeen Women’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Antonia Farnworth of the Perry Lakes Hawks.

A near triple-double performance from the Hawk’s Farnworth earns her this Rounds POTW acknowledgement.

The Hawks and Farnworth have hit their straps at the right time of the season, as the 2017 WSBL Champions position themselves strongly prior to the SBL post-season. Playing away to the 4th placed Kalamunda Eastern Suns who boast two-Lynx players themselves in Rintala and Ciabattoni, the Hawks won themselves a vital win 84-79. Farnworth stuffed the stats sheet with 29 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists, while playing just over 34 minutes. Crucially, as the Eastern Suns narrowed the margin to just 81-79 with 36 seconds remaining, Farnworth knocked down 3 of 4 free throws to put the game out of reach.

Farnworth is averaging 18.19ppg, 8.19rpg and 4.75apg on the season, with her Round 17 efforts equalling her season high in scoring.

The Hawks have now won 7 of their last 9 games dating back to Round 9 where they had just 1 win to their name, good for 11th on the WSBL ladder. Their subsequent turn in form has catapulted them into equal 7th, with games against the Wolves (11th), Tigers (5th) and Senators (6th) remaining in 2018, all of which the Hawks will now view as winnable. Should the Hawks claim a Top 8 spot, they will undoubtable be considered a threat to whichever team draws them in the first round of Finals.
