THE Round Eight Men’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Brian Voelkel of the PrintSync South West Slammers.
Brian Voelkel has established himself as the most prolific contributor across all major categories since he entered the League back in 2016. Since appearing in just three 2018 games, he has showed no signs of slowing.
In an astounding statistical performance, Voelkel dismantled the Goldfield Giants in a 100-78 victory at Neils Hansen stadium Saturday night. In 38 minutes, Voelkel posted a stat line of 10 points, 25 rebounds and 14 assists, rounding off the triple-double performance with 2 blocks and a steal. Testament to his unselfishness were his total field goal attempts, shooting just 5 shots for the game, choosing to feed fellow import Brandon Thompson on his way to 35 points.
Voelkel is now averaging 10.3ppg, 21.3rpg and 10apg, leading the league in both rebounds and assists per game. His last two games have seen domination on the glass, with 27 rebounds against Cockburn and 25 against Goldfields.
Voelkel and the Slammers sit 13th on the MSBL ladder and have a tough Round Nine fixture ahead of them with a Redbacks/Hawks double-header. Victory against both of those teams will have the league on edge, as the new Slammers team acclimatises to life with Thompson and Voelkel.
