Women’s SBL Preview – Week 9

WOMEN’S Round of the SBL sees the Women’s fixtures take the main event slot this weekend starting on Friday night highlighted by a tantalising match up featuring the Lakeside Lightning putting their undefeated record on the line against the Perth Redbacks.

It’s Women’s Round of the SBL meaning that all the Women’s fixtures will take prime position across the Week 9 action starting with them being played at 8.30pm on Friday night, 8pm on Saturday evening and then 2pm on Sunday afternoon on Mother’s Day.

The action gets underway on Friday night with the Rockingham Flames playing the Kalamunda Eastern Suns, the Willetton Tigers taking on the East Perth Eagles and the Lakeside Lightning facing the Perth Redbacks.

That leads into another three matches on Saturday night with the Joondalup Wolves playing the Lakeside Lightning, the East Perth Eagles facing the Stirling Senators and the Perth Redbacks taking on the South West Slammers.

The round then concludes on Mother’s Day Sunday at Eaton Recreation Centre with the South West Slammers playing the Perry Lakes Hawks.

SUNDAY WOMEN’S SBL RECAP – WEEK 8
WOMEN’S ROUND

Women’s Round in the SBL begins on Friday night with two in-form teams doing battle as the Flames host the Eastern Suns at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

The Flames now have the presence of two imports D’Lesha Lloyd and Taneisha Harrison and sit in fourth position with a 6-2 record coming off an emphatic 35-point win on the road to the Tigers last Saturday night.

The Eastern Suns are in good form too having beaten both the Lady Wolfpack and Cougars last weekend to improve to a 6-4 record in sixth position setting up what should be a tremendous contest with the Flames on Friday night.

The Tigers are also back at Willetton Basketball Stadium on Friday night looking to bounce back from last week’s loss to the Flames. Willetton enters the round in fifth position and a 5-2 record while East Perth remains on the bottom at 0-9 and an average losing margin of 35.4 points.

The last game on Friday night looks to be another cracking contest with the Lighting hosting the Redbacks at Lakeside Recreation Centre.

The Lightning remain undefeated this season at 8-0 to be on top of the table having survived a scare to beat the defending champion Hawks by a point on the road last Saturday night.

They will now face another significant test against the Redbacks on Friday night.

Perth comes into the game having beaten the Senators by 27 points last Friday night to respond to a loss to Willetton in style and improve to a 6-2 record to be in second position setting the stage for the clash with Lakeside.

Then on Saturday night, the Lady Wolfpack are back on their home floor at HBF Arena to host the Lightning.

The Wolves come into the game after losing at home by three points last Friday to Kalamunda so will be attempting to bounce back against the league-leading Lightning who will have already hosted the Redbacks on Friday night.

Also on Saturday night, the Eagles back up playing at Willetton on Friday by hosting the Senators at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre. Stirling comes into the game in 10th position at 3-6.

The last game of Saturday night is another fascinating contest with the Redbacks playing the Slammers at Belmont Oasis.

The Redbacks will be backing up playing the Lightning on the road on Friday while the Slammers come into the game having built some momentum before the bye last week improving to a 3-5 record in eighth position.

The Slammers then back that up on Sunday at Eaton Recreation Centre by playing the defending champion Hawks.

It will be the only game of the weekend for Perry Lakes who remain near the bottom of the table at 1-8 despite an improved performance last Saturday night against Lakeside only losing by a point. The Hawks couldn’t back it up on Sunday losing to the Cougars by 12 points.
