MSBL Player of the Week: Daniel Alexander

THE Round Ten Men’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Daniel Alexander of the Lakeside Lightning.

True to his 2016 SBL success, NBA G-League championship and 2x SBL All-Star selection, Daniel Alexander has shown exactly how impactful his signing will be in 2018 for the Lakeside Lightning.

In a pair of wins, the Lakeside Lightning look to be hitting their straps in the middle part of the season, with several new additions working in cohesion for Coach Dave Daniels. Perhaps the most pivotal piece, Alexander, starred in both wins against the Mandurah Magic and the Goldfields Giants.

Friday night the Lightning were away to the Magic, with Alexander pouring in a game-high 33 points on 12-16 shooting, including 4-6 from deep, as the Lightning secured a 106-80 victory. He also managed to pick off 5 rebounds from teammate Jarrad Prue’s tally of 17, in just 25 minutes of play.

Backing it up Saturday with a home game vs Goldfields, Alexander added a double-double in just 24 minutes of action, with 19 points and 11 rebounds. He rounded out the performance with 6 assists, 1 block and a steal. Alexanders ability to cause headaches for opposition bigs was evident, again stretching the floor by going 3-6 from the three-point line.

The wins see the Lightning (6-7) make up 3 spots on the SBL ladder, jumping from 10th to 7th in a matter of days. they take on the Cockburn Cougars (6-7) Saturday, who face the disappointment of losing surprise signing Clint Steindl in his first weekend of action.
