Rubery Banned for Two Matches

Goldfields Giants Head Coach, Scott Rubery has received a 2-game ban and 5-week suspended sentence after pleading guilty to verbal umpire abuse following the Giants loss to the Willetton Tigers on Saturday Night.

Rubery, who is in his first year with the Giants, pleaded guilty to two charges including ‘Using abusive language towards a referee’ and ‘Acting in an unsportsmanlike manner’. The Tribunal found Rubery guilty of a further two charges, ‘Breaching the Code of Conduct’ and ‘Conduct likely to bring the game into disrepute’.

The penalty withholds Rubery from coaching the Giants next two SBL matches against the Stirling Senators and the Mandurah Magic, before being eligible to take the reigns again when his team takes on the South West Slammers in Eaton on July 1.

Rubery expressed remorse for his actions, before apologising to the match officials. The Giants will announce the stand in coach shortly as they look to get their season back on track following an unfortunate run of injuries which sees the team sitting 14th on the SBL ladder.
