THE Round Sixteen Men’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Brian Voelkel of the PrintSync South West Slammers.
Two tireless efforts which included consecutive triple-doubles have earned Voelkel POTW honours in Round 16.
Voelkel and the Slammers first played away to the surging Perry Lakes Hawks, who are currently one of, if not the most in form team through this part of the season. Though the Slammers walked away 105-73 losers, Voelkel was the one shining light as he posted 25 points, 20 rebounds, 11 assists and 5 steals. Importantly for the Slammers, their star import didn’t sit for a moment of the contest, playing all 40 minutes.
As if that effort wasn’t enough, Voelkel again remarkably played all 40 minutes in their Sunday fixture against the Goldfields Giants, this time walking away 95-86 victors. Voelkel posted his fourth triple-double for the season, with 31 points, 27 rebounds and 10 assists, as a strong fourth quarter effort got the Slammers across the line.
Voelkel now boasts season averages of 17.6ppg, 16.9rpg and 7.8apg, which are good for 2nd overall rebounding and 1st on the assists list. The Slammers now sit 5 games outside the Top 8, with a post-season berth looking unlikely. They face the Lightning (5th) and Redbacks (3rd) in a tough Round 17 double this weekend.
