Basketball WA release the 2020 Men’s and Women’s State Basketball League Fixtures.
It will be a blockbuster opening for SBL 2020, with one of the largest league rivalries taking place on March 14 with the Geraldton Buccaneers hosting the Goldfields Giants at Active West Stadium.
The Giants will then travel to Cockburn to take on the Cougar men on March 15, before a full round of fixtured games tip-off from March 20.
The Willetton Tigers anticipate a record crowd with the grand opening of their newly modernised multi-million dollar facility on March 21 against the Warwick Senators at Willetton Basketball Stadium.
Six separate venues will showcase the SBL on a Thursday night over Easter during Round 5 with the South West vs Mandurah derby and the Wolves v Senators Battle of Joondalup taking place.
In round 6, the SBL will again engage with local RSL’s across WA to commemorate all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Willetton will continue on tradition as they host the Kalamunda Eastern Suns on ANZAC Day evening, while the Giants host the Warwick Senators and the Geraldton Buccaneers host the Perry Lakes Hawks.
Community engagement will be a focus in 2020 with Women’s Round (9), Heritage Round (13), and Mental Health Awareness Round (18) all included as initiatives for this upcoming Season.
The SBL regular season will conclude on Saturday, 25 July, with Basketball WA’s Annual Awards Gala to take place that night as the League crowns both the Men’s and Women’s MVP’s for 2020.
Under the revised finals model, the finals will take place across 4 weekends with the Grand Finals set on Friday, 21 August and Saturday, 22 August at the Bendat Basketball Centre.
