Without referees, there is no game and this years SBL West Coast Classic would not have gone ahead was it not for our committed and passionate SBL referee group.
Many don’t know the SBL referees took a volunteer pay reduction of over 50% this season to ensure the WCC competition could go ahead following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Officials travelled to Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Bunbury without complaint and continued to spend hours reviewing video footage and completing game reports weekly.
The referee group also chose to put development first, volunteering to undertake 3 person officiating across the entire competition.
The SBL referee culture is driven by some incredible leaders who drive professionalism and passion amongst the group.
Love them or not, the entire panel of SBL officials and evaluators deserve to be appreciated this year for their sacrifices which ensured our competition could take place.
