ROUND 6 of the Women’s SBL got underway on Friday night with victories for the Stirling Senators, Joondalup Wolves and Rockingham Flames.

The round got underway at Bendat Basketball Centre with Perry Lakes and Stirling both desperate for their second wins of the season, and it was the Senators who beat the Lady Hawks 70-63.

The Joondalup Wolves also defeated the Cockburn Cougars 69-59 at HBF Arena with the Rockingham Flames keeping the East Perth Eagles winless in 2018 with a 92-60 victory at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

WOMEN’S SBL PREVIEW – WEEK 6 

The Friday night action got underway with the defending champion Perry Lakes hosting Stirling. Both teams finished in the top four last year but had only one win apiece so far in 2018 heading into the contest.

But the Senators had opened their account the previous Saturday night handing the Mandurah Magic their first loss of the season and continued that momentum on Friday night.

The Senators led 22-14 by quarter-time and then 41-29 by half-time before holding on for the seven-point victory.

Former East Perth stalwart Nicole Jorre de St Jorre was terrific for Stirling with 26 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals on shooting 8/13 from the field and 3/5 from deep. She also went 7/11 from the foul line.

Jasmine Martin added 13 points and four assists for the Senators, Amber Land 13 points, 13 rebounds and three steals, and Jodee Sontay nine points, four boards and three assists.

Perry Lakes welcomed back Toni Farnworth and Lauren Jeffers but it wasn’t enough to get their second win of the season. Farnworth did top-score, though, with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Emma Clarke added 15 points and three rebounds while Jeffers finished with six points, eight assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Rockingham hosted East Perth also on Friday night with the Flames keeping the Eagles winless in 2018 with the 32-point victory on the back of a commanding performance for four quarters.

It was the big frontcourt of the Flames that was the key to the big win with Maddison Allen finishing with 22 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocked shots while Darcee Garbin contributed 21 points and four boards.

Jacinta Bourne also had 13 points and four rebounds for the Flames, Ella Kennedy eight points and four steals, and Ariana Hetherington seven points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Rose Aryang top-scored for East Perth with an impressive performance for 18 points, four rebounds and two steals on the back of shooting 9/11 from the field in just 21 minutes of court time.

Cameron Flynn added 16 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists for the Eagles with Bree Fisher contributing 10 points and Eryn Fisher nine to go with five rebounds and three steals.

The Lady Wolfpack also hosted the Cougars on Friday night at HBF Arena with the Wolves bouncing back from a loss two weeks ago against the Slammers to end up winning by 10 points.

Joondalup improved to 3-3 with the victory with Nikita Martin once again top-scoring with 20 points and four rebounds on shooting 8/14 from the field.

Amy Kidner added 13 points and six rebounds for the Wolves with Chelsea Belcher contributing 10 points and Ellyce Ironmonger seven points to go with 17 rebounds.

Kisha Lee had a big performance for the Cougars scoring 28 points and pulling in 11 rebounds on 12/21 shooting from the floor.

Brianna Moyes added eight points, three rebounds and three assists for Cockburn while Haylee De Sousa finished with eight points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
