THE Rockingham Flames are warming into the 2018 Women’s SBL season nicely backing up a 32-point win on Friday night beating the South West Slammers on the road on Saturday night by 27 points.

There was just the one game in the Women’s SBL on Saturday night as part of the Anzac Round and that saw the Rockingham Flames beat the South West Slammers 78-51 at Eaton Recreation Centre.

That came after there were three matches on Friday night that saw the Stirling Senators beat the Perry Lakes Hawks 70-63, the Joondalup Wolves defeat the Cockburn Cougars 69-59 and the Rockingham Flames down the East Perth Eagles 92-60.

The Flames took some hard hits in the back half of the 2017 season as coach Ryan Petrik put plenty of minutes into his young players with an eye of them benefitting from the experience and the group hitting back hard in 2018 topped up with some quality talent.

While imports Taneisha Harrison and D’Lesha Lloyd haven’t arrived yet, the presence of Townsville Fire WNBL championship winning star Darcee Garbin and new recruit Maddison Allen has provided quite the impressive front court through the opening six rounds.

That continued on Saturday night in Bunbury with the Flames coming away with the 27-point victory to improve to a 4-2 record on the season on the back of the 32-point win at home over the Eagles on Friday.

Showing no signs of fatigue from the previous night or the trip further south, Rockingham made a hot start against South West racing to a 24-11 lead by quarter-time.

That had grown to 44-21 by half-time and it was all academic from there as they went on to claim the 27-point victory.

Darcee Garbin delivered a huge performance for the Flames finishing with 31 points, 14 rebounds and two assists on shooting 11/15 from the field and 4/4 from three-point range.

Maddison Allen added 14 points and 10 rebounds as well for Rockingham with Jacinta Bourne contributing 15 points, eight steals and four boards. Ella Kennedy also had eight points and three rebounds.

Georgia Denehey top-scored for the Slammers with 15 points to go with seven rebounds while Courtney Bayliss contributed 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

But the Slammers didn’t get enough from their imports with Charlotte van Kleef finishing with eight points, four rebounds and three blocked shots, and Tori Fisher six points and five boards.
