THE Round Nine Men’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Jeylyn Sharpe of the Northern Resource Goldfields Giants.
In a round that provided exceptional performances across the board, it was a well-rounded statistical line from the Giants’ Jeylyn Sharpe that has earned him Round Nine POTW honours.
Hosting the Mandurah Magic in Kambalda, it quickly boiled down to a battle of the US imports, with the home squad emerging victorious 105-104. While the Magic’s Stewart and Shabazz combined for 72 points, Sharpe and the Giants weathered the storm and made some clutch 4QTR plays to get over the line.
While Sharpe couldn’t claim the 4-point play that sealed the game, he did post 38 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals and 2 blocks. Sharpe proved to be a handful for the Magic throughout the game, heading to the line on 12-15 FT shooting. He was only rested for 93 seconds of the entire game.
The Giants (2-8) will be looking to salvage a couple more wins from the first half of this season, as they take on a new-look Lakeside Lightning (4-7) and the league-leading Joondalup Wolves (10-1) this weekend on an away double-header.
