THE Round Eleven Men’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Jalen Billups of the Joondalup Wolves.
The POTW for Billups has been some time coming, and is a just reward for his consistent and dominant high level of play.
Friday night, the league-leading Joondalup Wolves were away against the Perry Lakes Hawks team still finding their feet. Billups was able to outplay both Jacob Holmen and Brian Carlwell on his way to a game and season high 32 points, to go with his 9 rebounds in 27 minutes. Shooting 13-21 (61%) on the night, Billups converted several high-percentage shots in reasonably low minutes, testament to the Wolves depth as they won 95-67.
In a quieter performance, Billups posted 19 points, 5 rebounds and a pair of steals as the Wolves added yet another win to their 9-game streak, defeating the Magic 107-75. Billups again shot the ball well, 7-14 from the field in just 29 minutes.
Billups has now recorded 8 games with over 24 points along with 5 double-doubles, all while averaging a relatively low 27 minute per game. The Wolves (14-1) host the Stirling Senators in Rivalry Round Saturday 2 June, carrying on their Battle of Joondalup theme.
